Resumo:Its approaches the subject representation from a theoretical perspective. This paper focuses on the literature produced in Library and Information Science, based on the need for an individualized approach of the subject axis of information organization. It aims to theoretically analyze the subject representation, as a way to explain the subject approach to information organization. It raises questions about the theoretical support of the subject dimension of information organization. It is a descriptive, theoretical and qualitative research that conducts a literature review in books, book chapters, journal articles and proceedings. The results show the particularity of contributions from the subject representation, as well as the mediation it provides in the information cycle, between the production and use of information, integrating the user to the established subject representation. It also highlights the specificity of subject representation processes, products and instruments, which end up establishing a subject approach to information, bringing together specific procedures for its organization and subsequent search and access by subject, as well as giving due emphasis to the informational content dimension. Finally, it concludes with the historical conduction of subject representation procedures and the expression of the content of knowledge records, which reverberates in an epistemological, methodological and operational approach in Library and Information Science.
