The objective of this theoretical study is to outline the state of the art on the theme "working relationship" with regard instances of the organization of the work process and human resource policies. Therefore, the text brings about a historical work and society, focusing on aspects related to the evolution of human work in society, from primitive societies to work in industrial society. Finally, we bring to the scene discussions about instances of labor relations, focusing mainly on the instance of the organization of the work process and human resource policies. The context of this work starts from the discussion of fundamental issues for understanding the conceptual framework that underpins the current research on labor relations in the business environment. O objetivo deste estudo teórico é delinear o estado da arte sobre a temática “relações de trabalho”, no tocante as instâncias da organização do processo de trabalho e das políticas de recursos humanos. Para tanto, o texto traz um resgate histórico sobre trabalho e sociedade, enfocando aspectos relacionado a evolução do trabalho humano em sociedade, desde as sociedades primitivas até o trabalho na sociedade industrial. Por fim, trazemos à cena discussões acerca das instâncias das relações de trabalho, enfocando principalmente a instância da organização do processo de trabalho e das políticas de recursos humanos. A contextualização do presente trabalho se dá a partir da discussão de pontos fundamentais para a compreensão do esquema conceitual que sustenta a investigação atual sobre relações de trabalho no ambiente empresarial.
