In this section, doctors, politicians and journalists built in their speeches the representation of a sick space, of a Paraíba marked by syphilis from the coast to the hinterland, calling attention to the fight against this disease. As a result of a national health reform context, the government of Paraíba signed an agreement with the National Department of Public Health (DNSP), to, among other things, promote the prophylaxis of syphilis and venereal diseases. The public health policies developed at that moment, reveal the construction of specialized dispensaries as spaces for prophylaxis and health education. O artigo analisa os discursos médicos e a constituição de políticas públicas no enfretamento da endemia da sífilis no estado da Paraíba ao longo da década de 1920. Nesse recorte, médicos, políticos e jornalistas construíram em seus discursos a representação de um espaço doente, de uma Paraíba marcada pela sífilis do litoral ao sertão, chamando a atenção para o combate dessa doença. Como consequência de um contexto de reforma sanitária em âmbito nacional, o governo da Paraíba firmou acordo com o Departamento Nacional de Saúde Pública (DNSP) para, dentre outras coisas, promover a profilaxia da sífilis e das doenças venéreas. As políticas de saúde pública gestadas nesse momento, revelam a construção de dispensários especializados como espaços de profilaxia e educação sanitária.
