Resumo:The article analyzes the medical speeches and the constitution of public policies in facing the endemic syphilis in the state of Paraíba throughout the 1920s. In this section, doctors, politicians and journalists built in their speeches the representation of a sick space, of a Paraíba marked by syphilis from the coast to the hinterland, calling attention to the fight against this disease. As a result of a national health reform context, the government of Paraíba signed an agreement with the National Department of Public Health (DNSP), to, among other things, promote the prophylaxis of syphilis and venereal diseases. The public health policies developed at that moment, reveal the construction of specialized dispensaries as spaces for prophylaxis and health education.
