Resumo:This article brings a study of the piece Coral Canto do Sertão, from Bachiana Brasileira nº 4, by Heitor Villa-Lobos. It is an intra-musical analysis rhythm and melody and also an extramusical one, through external factors, such as physical characteristics of the northeastern hinterland, as these are internalized and reframed in music. The study was developed through the examination of the score in order to explore it from a critical perspective, going beyond music itself. Under a musicological approach (KERMAN, 2010; LOPES, 2014), excerpts (tropes) and phrases (topical) that led to the theme were identified (AGAWU; RATTEN, 1980), being observed as they moved in music in order to check the suggested title: Canto do Sertão. With this study, we raised the discussion to what extent music, as a narrative can bring or establish points of identification with the reality of the region addressed, the northeastern hinterland.
