| Resumo: | This article aims to analyze the creation of the Conservatório das Matas de Alagoas, the performance of José de Mendonça de Matos Moreira as a conservative judge between the years 1789-1799 and the conflicts that directly involved the control of the natural space of the forests. The sources used were documents generated by the Portuguese administration, all located in the Overseas Historical Archive (AHU), available on the digital platform of the rescue project. Based on the evidence contained in the records, it is proposed to understand the conflicts that involved the Comarca forests in the political plots that crossed the Atlantic, rejecting any regionalist canonization as an exclusive proposal to explain the region. |
