From a theoretical point of view, we will be guided by the reflections of authors like Michel de Certeau and Franco Moretti, who analyze these ways of going through the city through words, using the maps built by them as analytical tools. We will take as sources some articles published in the newspaper A república, as well as Manoel Dantas' work "Christmas in fifty years". Nosso objetivo nesse artigo é analisar algumas maneiras de percorrer a cidade de Natal no começo do século XX propostas por intelectuais natalenses nesse período, problematizando de que maneira o porto de Natal passou a integrar tais itinerários de viagem no espaço citadino propostos por um desses autores, Manoel Dantas. Do ponto de vista teórico, nos guiaremos pelas reflexões de autores como Michel de Certeau e Franco Moretti, que analisam essas maneiras de percorrer a cidade por meio das palavras, usando os mapas construídos por elas como ferramentas analíticas. Tomaremos como fontes alguns artigos publicados no jornal A república, bem como a obra “Natal daqui a cinquenta anos”, de Manoel Dantas.
