Resumo: | This article intends to analyze Concepción Arenal’s doctrine, as acorrectionalist, and its social position as prison visitator in Spain in the19th century. Initially, the historical and temporal context in whichArenal was inserted, stands out in order to contextualize his thoughtwith the criminological conjuncture of the time. In this sense, readingleads to the development of the Correctional School making brief notesabout its main ideas and distinguishing it from the dominantunderstandings of the Classical and Positive Schools. Furthermore,based on the aforementioned doctrinal influence, the importance ofvisiting and inspecting the prison system in contemporary times isrecovered as a contribution. This study is based on bibliographical anddocumentary analysis, made from records made with Arenal works, aswell as from posthumous research developed by other authors regardingtheir relevance to the jail. |
