During the month of April 2020, an “insect movie marathon” was held with 15 films of various genres, following an online movie-and-discussion format. The main objectives were to promote critical dialogue about the species represented in the popular media, to demystify their image as harmful and undesirable beings, and to offer the general public an option for educational entertainment during the period. Discussions were promoted through social networks and video synchronization platforms that allowed online chatting. Although the engagement was modest, the experiment was successful as a starting point for a further-reaching initiative. Este artículo describe una acción de divulgación científica llevada a cabo durante un período en el se aplicaron medidas de distanciamiento social para mitigar los efectos de la pandemia COVID-19. Durante el mes de abril de 2020 se exhibieron 15 películas, de varios géneros, que abordaban el tema de los insectos, utilizando un modelo de cine-debate virtual. Los dos objetivos principales de esta iniciativa fueron: promover el diálogo crítico sobre las especies representadas en los medios populares para desmitificar su imagen como seres nocivos e indeseables y ofrecen a la población en general una opción de entretenimiento educativo. Se promovieron debates por chat en redes sociales y en plataformas de sincronización de video. Aunque la participación de público fue modesta, la experiencia fue exitosa como punto de partida para una iniciativa de mayor alcance. Este artigo relata a experiência de uma ação de divulgação científica realizada durante o período de mitigação da pandemia de COVID-19, em que foram necessárias medidas de distanciamento social. Durante o mês de abril de 2020, foi realizada uma “maratona” com 15 filmes de diversos gêneros abordando insetos, no modelo de cine-debate virtual, tendo como objetivos principais: promover o diálogo crítico a respeito das espécies representadas na mídia popular, desmitificar a imagem destes como seres nocivos e indesejáveis, e oferecer à população em geral uma opção de entretenimento educativo durante o período. As discussões foram promovidas através de redes sociais e plataformas de sincronização de vídeo que permitiam a conversa através de chat. Embora o engajamento tenha sido modesto, a experiência foi bem-sucedida como ponto de partida para uma iniciativa de maior alcance.
