And from the viewpoint of the principles of sustainable development, seeks to minimize the stigma that significantly affect the society. Accordingly, this study aims to add to these discussions by addressing and discussing the current model of development and concepts of sustainable development, environmental education, responsible consumption and production, among others. Thus, a qualitative and descriptive approach of the concepts from research in bibliographic material with subsequent analysis of data with the method of content analysis. As a result, it was observed that there is still much to demystify it and make old and wrong concepts must be reviewed and new positions due to socio-environmental problems must be taken and encouraged. Degradação ambiental, problemas de ordem social, produção desenfreada e consumismo exacerbado, são alguns dos problemas latentes e amplamente discutidos na atualidade. E sob a ótica dos princípios do desenvolvimento sustentável, busca-se minimizar estes estigmas que afetam sensivelmente a sociedade. Nesse sentido, esse trabalho objetiva somar a essas discussões, abordando e debatendo o modelo atual de desenvolvimento e os conceitos de desenvolvimento sustentável, educação ambiental, consumo e produção responsável, entre outros. Para tanto, realizou-se uma abordagem descritiva e qualitativa dos conceitos, a partir de pesquisa em material bibliográfico com posterior análise dos dados com o método de análise de conteúdo. Como resultado, observou-se que ainda há muito que se desmitificar e fazer, antigos e equivocados conceitos devem ser revistos e novas posturas frente aos problemas sócio-ambientais devem ser tomadas e encorajadas.
