Resumo:This article aims to analyze the relationship between Literature and History in the work O Cão sem plumas, by João Cabral de Melo Neto. Using the comparative method, we start from the fact that this combination is the basic assumption of mimetic representation. The focus of the study takes a look at the faces of the poem, representative of the Capibaribe River, oscillating between the angle of the historian and the angle of the poet. As a result of the study, one can understand the observation that history is in poetry, as poetry is in history, in a cooperative and complementary interaction. As a theoretical basis for reflection on the connection between the two areas, authors such as Sidney Chalhoub and Afrânio Coutinho, who present an associative approach between both and allow confirmation of this interaction, are taken.
