Resumo:In the Borborema Province, several massifs covered by cenozoic sandstones raised to elevations of about 750 m are indicated as indicators of neotectonic activity. Among these massifs, the Serra do João do Vale remains the most devoid of studies. The study of structural lines in the area is important for the identification of clues about the current morphostructural picture of Serra de João de Vale inherited from cenozoic tectonic movements. Knowing this, the objective of this work was to present a preliminary morphostructural mapping for the referred massif, based on the surface relationships between the structural lineaments, the predominant lithotypes and the local topographic amplitudes. To achieve this, remote sensing techniques were used. The occurrence of seven morphostructural compartments was identified. It is hoped that this work will be the initial step for future work in the region that is more in-depth.
