Thus, we historicize the presence of body graphics throughout the formation of the group and its contribution as a representation of the memory and identity of ethnicity; describing it, therefore, as an important part of the history of these indigenous peoples. Methodologically, we conducted studies from documentary sources related to the process of recognition of ethnicity, which are followed by empirical research characterized by the production of photographs, notes in field diaries and interviews, providing an analysis of the history and memory wrapped in the body painting of that society. Este trabalho possui o objetivo de realizar um estudo historiográfico sobre os usos da pintura corporal entre os indígenas Jiripankó, habitantes no alto sertão do estado de Alagoas. Assim, historicizamos a presença do grafismo corporal ao longo da formação do grupo e sua contribuição enquanto representação da memória e identidade da etnia; o descrevendo, portanto, enquanto parte importante da história dos referidos indígenas. Metodologicamente, realizamos estudos a partir de fontes documentais referentes ao processo de reconhecimento da etnia, essas sendo seguidas pela pesquisa empírica caracterizada pela produção de fotografias, anotações em diários de campo e realização de entrevistas, proporcionando uma análise da história e memória envoltas na pintura corporal daquela sociedade.
