This study proposes a brief recap of what has been studied about the South Minas Gerais Indigenous History, focusing on the Serra da Mantiqueira and the Verde River, from the municipality of Virginia, showing what has been done so far and what is intended to be done. to deepen research and contribute to the rescue and valorization of indigenous elements in South Minas Gerais society. O estudo da História Indígena em Minas, hoje, tem vigor dentro da academia, podendo destacar, por exemplo, os estudos de Maria Leônia Chaves de Resende. Mas, há ainda grande lacuna em relação ao sul de Minas, que, no período colonial, foi dos principais pontos de circulação entre Rio/São Paulo e a região das minas de ouro, o que afetou as dinâmicas dos povos indígenas que viviam ou passavam ali. Este estudo propõe uma breve recapitulação do que vem sendo estudado sobre a História Indígena sul-mineira, com foco na Serra da Mantiqueira e no rio Verde, a partir do município de Virgínia, mostrando o que foi feito até agora e o que se pretende fazer para aprofundar as pesquisas e contribuir para o resgate e valorização dos elementos indígenas na sociedade sul-mineira.
