In order to improve the discussions about this theme, this article seeks to investigate how the comprehension factor is presented in the textual production process of a resume written by a pair of university students, based on the essay by Toledo (1994). Therefore, we analyze the text from a procedural look, that is, from its genesis. We are theoretically based on Flower and Hayes (1981), Prado (2019), Bakhtin (1997), Marcuschi (2010), Matencio (2002), Dell’Isola (2007), Machado (2010), Paviani (2010) and Koch and Travaglia (2015). Data analysis evidenced that comprehension is a fundamental factor in the retextualization process, being one of its basic characteristics so that the process is not considered mechanical. A retextualização é tida como uma grande ferramenta para o trabalho com os gêneros do discurso, visto que se trata da produção de um novo texto a partir de um ou mais texto(s)-base. No intuito de ampliar as discussões a respeito dessa temática, este artigo busca investigar como se apresenta o fator compreensão no processo de produção textual de um resumo escrito por uma dupla de estudantes universitários, a partir do ensaio de Toledo (1994). Para tanto, analisamos o texto a partir de um olhar processual, ou seja, de sua gênese. Fundamentamo-nos teoricamente em Flower e Hayes (1981), Prado (2019), Bakhtin (1997), Marcuschi (2010), Matencio (2002), Dell’Isola (2007), Machado (2010), Paviani (2010) e Koch e Travaglia (2015). A análise dos dados evidenciou que a compreensão é um fator fundamental no processo de retextualização, sendo uma de suas características basilares para que o processo não seja considerado mecânico.
