Resumo:This work analyzes the performance of metaphorical recategorization in the constitution of textuality and argumentation in the political debate genre. This referential process promotes a reconstruction of the objects of discourse under a more complex scope, as it is not limited to textual portions and is usually performed by indirect anaphora in the form of a metaphor. In relation to the political debate genre, it is regarded as a ruled and argumentative public debate, as candidates seek to convince undecided voters that they are the most suitable candidates for the presidency. The theoretical reference has the theoretical contributions of Cavalcante, Custódio Filho and Brito (2014), Costa (2009), Custódio Filho (2011), Koch (2011), Koch and Elias (2015), Köche, Boff and Marinello, Marcuschi (2003), Moreira (2002), Preti (2000) and others. The study follows a qualitative approach, according to which the data of the research were analyzed in an interpretative way, without focusing on its quantification. The corpus consists of fragments of the debate of the band television network of the second round of the presidential elections in Brazil, in 2014. Regarding the analyzes, it was seen how the metaphorical recategorization acted in the textual fabric and in the argumentation of the political debate, promoting not only taken from reality, but also its reworking, in a negotiated way, from a sociocognitive perspective.
