It is suggested here the outline for a history research project that addresses the medieval liturgical chant - the plainchant – as, at the same time, product and producer of the double relation of man to the sacred and the man with the body. To do so, it elects a few moments in the unfolding of Christian musical production of the medieval west, concentrating its approach between centuries IX and XI. This time-space cutting has enabled the emergence of questions about the presence of aesthetic pleasure in the territory of senses’ prohibition that was intended to be the Church. Este artigo se volta para as relações da música com o corpo e com o espaço no período medieval. Sugere-se aqui as linhas gerais para um projeto de pesquisa de história que contemple o canto litúrgico medieval – o cantochão – como, ao mesmo tempo, produto e produtor da dupla relação do homem com o sagrado e do homem com o corpo. Para tanto, elege alguns momentos no desenrolar da produção musical cristã do Ocidente medieval, concentrando sua abordagem entre os séculos IX e XII. Esse recorte espaço-temporal possibilitou a emergência de algumas questões sobre a presença do prazer estético no território de interdição dos sentidos que pretendia ser a Igreja.
