Resumo:In the first half of the nineteenth century, the city of Cuiaba, Mato Grosso Province, experienced the development of a legal apparatus that had as main objective to establish mechanisms officers; they would favor progress and modernization of the city. Such mechanisms are called Codes Posture, and as in other cities of the Empire, were enacted by the City Council. Driving behaviors and reshaping the urban environment, these codes redefined the city, taking advantage of discipline and care for life to achieve their goals. In this sense, the lines that follow, present a discussion that involves the techniques of biopolitics and disciplinary tactics. Therefore, we used as support the theoretical notions presented by Michel Foucault's coming to biopower and discipline.
