| Resumo: | This article, which is part of my master's degree research, aims to show the range and the influence of devotional literature of good death in the popular imagination and mortuary practices on the Paraíba Fluminense Valley, specifically at Pirai parish, in the first half nineteenth century. It is intended to demonstrate that the manuals of good death, which had great influence in the Empire capital, were also present and active within the state of Rio de Janeiro, influencing the pious practices, the eschatological imagery and popular funeral practices. |
