Ahead of this, to understand the complexity of the urban space of Caicó, represented in this periodical, if presents as a task chosen for us, in the writing and production of this article. For the composition of this literal body, we use as methodology, the reading and the analysis of the journalistic speech published in the periodic A Fôlha, over all that referring one to the urban representations. In this direction, after the accomplishment of the research in this historical source, we hit upon that Caicó was represented and printed matter for the journalistic speech of A Fôlha, as being a city that, even so was, in the decade of 50 of century XX, commanded under the molds of a Christian moral, if it found branched off between old and the new, traditional and the modern, the standard and the shunting line, at last, between the norm and the trespass. Thus, this city, built under pillars of a regional tradition, went, gradual, incorporating its urban territory, signs of modernity, new equipment and installed services that transformed the landscape of the city and, consequently, modified the daily one of its practicing citizens. Partindo da perspectiva de que as cidades são representadas através de várias formas e expressas por meio de múltiplas linguagens humanas, objetivamos nesse artigo, tentar perceber as representações da cidade de Caicó/RN impressas nas páginas semanais do Jornal A Fôlha, durante os anos de 1954 a 1958. Diante disso, compreender a complexidade do espaço urbano de Caicó, representada nesse Jornal, se apresenta como uma tarefa escolhida por nós, na escrita e produção deste artigo. Para a composição desse corpo textual, utilizamos como metodologia, a leitura e a análise do discurso jornalístico publicado no periódico A Fôlha, sobretudo aquele referente às representações urbanas. Nesse sentido, após a realização das pesquisas nessa fonte histórica, atinamos que Caicó era representado e impresso pelo discurso jornalístico d’A Fôlha, como sendo uma cidade que, embora estivesse, na década de 50 do século XX, ordenada sob os moldes de uma moral cristã, se encontrava bifurcada entre o velho e o novo, o tradicional e o moderno, o padrão e o desvio, enfim, entre a norma e a transgressão. Assim, essa cidade, edificada sob pilares de uma tradição regional, ia, gradativamente, incorporando ao seu território urbano, signos da modernidade, novos equipamentos e serviços instalados que transformavam a paisagem da cidade e, conseqüentemente, modificavam o cotidiano de seus sujeitos praticantes.
