The context of the study surrounds the post-abolition, focusing on the black press that circulated in the capital, Porto Alegre, and in an inner city, Pelotas. The latter, during the empire had more economic prestige than the capital. However, Pelotas in the twentieth century came to live with the economy stagnant. The main source, the black press, allows many possibilities of analysis, one of them is to know their interlocutors. Briefly highlighting the experiences of these men, they become essential to understand both their trajectories and their writing. A proposta do texto é destacar quem era os homens que estavam por trás da elaboração de jornais de cunho racial no estado do Rio Grande do Sul. O contexto do estudo circunda o pós-abolição, focando os jornais negros que circularam na capital, Porto Alegre, e em uma cidade do interior, Pelotas. Essa última, durante o império possuía mais prestígio econômico que a capital. No entanto, Pelotas, no século XX passou a viver com a economia estagnada. A principal fonte, a imprensa negra, permite muitas possibilidades de análise, uma delas é conhecer os seus interlocutores. Brevemente destacadas as experiências desses homens, elas se tornam essenciais para compreender tanto suas trajetórias como sua escrita.
