The theoretical and methodological principles of this study are based in the assumptions of the New History and Cultural History, and has as theoretical premise the researches related to the History of Education, Women's Education and School Culture. When studying the conception of a school for underprivileged girls, we realized that, despite the difficulties, the education promoted was in tune with what was preached in the period and what society wanted in the first decades of the twentieth century. O presente artigo tem como objetivos apresentar a implantação da Escola da Imaculada Conceição; sua contribuição à educação de meninas desvalidas em Sergipe, de modo especial na cidade de São Cristóvão e compreender o processo educativo de meninas órfãs e a atuação da referida instituição de ensino no campo da educação feminina. Os fundamentos teóricos metodológicos deste trabalho estão contidos nos pressupostos da Nova História e História Cultural e tem como fundamentação teórica as pesquisas relacionadas à História da Educação, Educação Feminina e Cultura Escolar Ao estudarmos a criação de uma escola para meninas desvalidas, percebemos que apesar das dificuldades, a educação promovida estava em sintonia com o que se pregava no período e o que almejava a sociedade nas primeiras décadas do século XX.
