Resumo:This article aims to present the implementation of the “Escola da Imaculada Conceição” and its contribution to the education of underprivileged girls in the state of Sergipe, Brazil, mainly in the city of São Cristovão, so as to understand the educational process of orphan girls and the accomplishment of this institution in the field of female education. The theoretical and methodological principles of this study are based in the assumptions of the New History and Cultural History, and has as theoretical premise the researches related to the History of Education, Women's Education and School Culture. When studying the conception of a school for underprivileged girls, we realized that, despite the difficulties, the education promoted was in tune with what was preached in the period and what society wanted in the first decades of the twentieth century.
