The article exposes some scenarios of current societies regarding the universalization of the capitalist system through the imposition of a monocultural and productivist model (Vandana Shiva; Claude Levi-Strauss; Isabelle Stengers). Within this process, formal education and academic management of knowledge and science have distanced themselves from their noblest ideals as regards the integral formation of citizens: the culture of intelligence and creativity to imagine and build a fairer world happen and marked by the diversity of ways of being and living. Only by rejecting the business-productivist model, that compromises the radical imagination (Nuccio Ordine; Norval Baitello Júnior), public universities will be able to find the place that distinguishes them from university-companies. Public universities can and must overcome the exclusively technical-scientific process of market formation that leads to a regression of democracy (Edgar Morin). El artículo expone algunos escenarios de las sociedades actuales en lo que se refiere a la universalización del sistema capitalista por medio de la imposición de un modelo monocultural y productivista (Vandana Shiva; Claude Lévi-Strauss; Isabelle Stengers). En el interior de ese proceso la educación formal y la gestión académica de los conocimientos y de las ciencias se han distanciado de sus idearios más nobles en lo que concierne a una formación integral de los ciudadanos: el cultivo de la inteligencia y la creatividad para imaginar y construir un mundo más justo y marcado por la diversidad de formas de ser y de vivir. Solamente por el rechazo al modelo empresarial-productivista, que compromete la imaginación radical (Nuccio Ordine; Norval Baitello Júnior), las universidades públicas podrán reencontrar el lugar que las distingue de las universidades-empresas. Las universidades públicas pueden y deben superar el proceso exclusivamente técnico-científico de formación para el mercado que conduce a una regresión de la democracia (Edgar Morin). O artigo expõe alguns cenários das sociedades atuais no que diz respeito à universalização do sistema capitalista por meio da imposição de um modelo monocultural e produtivista (Vandana Shiva; Claude Lévi-Strauss; Isabelle Stengers). No interior desse processo, a educação formal e a gestão acadêmica dos conhecimentos e das ciências têm se distanciado de seus ideários mais nobres no que tange a uma formação integral dos cidadãos: o cultivo da inteligência e da criatividade para imaginar e construir um mundo mais justo e marcado pela diversidade de formas de ser e viver. Somente pela recusa ao modelo empresarial-produtivista, que compromete a imaginação radical (Nuccio Ordine; Norval Baitello Júnior), as universidades públicas poderão reencontrar o lugar que as distingui das universidades-empresas.
