Abstract: It presents the history of the Câmara Cascudo Museum and the potential of the documentary and bibliographical collection, which makes up the documentation center of the institution, and serves as a source for the development of several researches. The extension surveys that involve the Museum were also raised in order to show the link with the community and the effectiveness of the University's triad - teaching, research, and extension. It is evident the importance of the documentation center of the Câmara Cascudo Museum in integrating the University Library System of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), considering that the museum is linked to this institution of higher education. From the interview with the managers of the institutions, the Museum and the University Library, as well as the archivist server, we sought to explain and understand why the museum did not take place within the Library System. In addition, the importance and consequences of the absence of the librarian in one of the main museums of the state of Rio Grande do Norte is highlighted. Keywords: Câmara Câmara Cascudo Museum. Resumo: Apresenta a trajetória do Museu Câmara Cascudo e a potencialidade do acervo documental e bibliográfico, que compõe o centro de documentação da instituição, e que serve como fonte para o desenvolvimento de diversas pesquisas. As pesquisas de extensão que envolvem o Museu também foram levantadas a fim de mostrar o enlace com a comunidade e a efetivação da tríade da Universidade – ensino, pesquisa, e extensão. Evidencia-se a importância do centro de documentação do Museu Câmara Cascudo em integrar o Sistema de Biblioteca Universitária da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), tendo em vista que o museu está vinculado a esta instituição de ensino superior. A partir da entrevista com os gestores das instituições, do Museu e da Biblioteca Universitária, como também com o servidor arquivista, buscou-se expor e compreender o porquê da não efetivação do museu dentro do Sistema de Bibliotecas. Ademais destaca-se a importância e as consequências da ausência do bibliotecário em um dos principais museus do estado do Rio Grande do Norte. Palavras-chaves: Museu Câmara Cascudo.
