Resumo:The present study is an ethnography among users of the nutrition public clinical in the city of Rio de Janeiro between the years 2015 and 2016. The objective of this text was to reveal the perceptions among users about the issues of food and their senses and meanings. As a methodology, in addition to participant observation in the waiting room, focus groups were conducted, a semidirectional interview and a 24-hour food recall. As results change the dieting was perceived as torture and the exchange of usual foods for healthy foods by nutritionists was poorly received by users. Thus, the diet, essential to compensate for the metabolic derangements caused by its pathologies, was considered torture.
