Resumo:The research aims to verify the relationship between the adoption of GHG emissions inventories and the operational and financial performance of companies between 2008 and 2015. To achieve the objective of the study, the performance of two groups of companies was compared: the first with the companies compiling the inventory of GHG emissions per contractual obligation and the second group composed of the companies belonging to the BM & FBovespa Ample Brazil-100 Index (IBrX-100). In order to measure the operational and financial performance, the Fotroscore model of Piotroski (2000) was used with panel analysis support. The financial data were extracted from the financial statements, using Economática® software. GHG emission inventories were collected on the GHG Protocol website; and the information on the issuance of shares was extracted from the website of the Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM). The results of the study showed that it is not possible to establish a relationship between the adoption of the GHG emissions inventories and the operational and financial performance, the hypothesis of the study is rejected. The contributions of this study are to demonstrate to stakeholders and other researchers that the use of the accounting tool for GHG emissions inventories does not directly impact the operational and financial performance of companies.
