Resumo:Abstract: The present study aims to a nalyze the importance of implicit ideas for the construction of meaning in argumentation texts. The notion of implicit ideas is intended to designate the effects of meaning produced during interpretation, manifested from a reflection on enunciation conditions. They are, consequently, necessary to elaborate an active, reflective and critical argumentation. In order to achieve our goal in this reflection, we use, as theoretical basis, studies of text and speech in the Pragmatic field, considering language as a means of action. The acts of language are composed by explicit and implicit elements; therefore, we developed a study of the implicit propositions as auxiliary instruments to create the meaning of a text. We focused on the implicit ideas for they are the result ofthe reader's reflection upon the speech content and its eventual comprehension. We applied then,. studies of the text as a process and as a product because we understand that the act of writing is constituted by two stages: the first one related to the mental processes and the next stage being the actual text production moment. In both stages, the implicit ideas represent valuable resources to create meaning, with its roots on the enunciation level. In this study, we analyzed texts produced by undergraduate students, aiming to observe how text meaning is created on the text surface and the inferences that could be derived from this. We noticed that many texts are opaque as a result of occurrences of incomplete ar non-directed ideas. We verify that this interferes with the derivation of implicit ideas, and consequently, with the comprehension of the text meaning, which is revealed by linguistic marks presented on the text surfaces.
