The aim of this research is to study passive techniques capable of providing thermal and visual comfort inside new urban houoses located in the warm humid cllimatic zone of Brazil. A biioclimatic analysis was wade to c\examine the warm humid climate and identify the climatic aspects whic does not comtribute thermal confort dy\aylight inside rooms. The study carred on approaching strategies were summarized as follows: Control of heat and solar radiation: use of shding derices to avoid direct sun and building materials which reduce absorbency of solar radiation and penetration of heat inside buildings.Promotion of air movement: provide openings arrangements and internal building layout to allow air movement to cross the building. Control brightness inside a room: avoid excessive light and glare through the use of light ccoloured surfaces and external elements whichdiffuse light.The analytical work looked at opening design for daylight for two room configurations, placed in single and multi-storey loyouts. Thermal simulations have assessed indoor tem[eratures, investigating the influence of shading, roof specification and aiar movement in indoors thermal conditions.#$&The room-models used for simulations were designed according to paramenters of the currant Recife`s Building Regulations. The purpose is to investigate whether they lead to acceptable level of daaylight and comfort. The purpose is to investigate whether they lead to acceptable level of daylight and comfort. The study proposes new parameters for the building Regulations which incorporate environmental design standarts.Recommendations and desing strategies for visual and thermal confort inside dwellings are summarized in form of design guidelines.
