Maria Firmina dos Reis

Sculpture of Maria Firmina dos Reis's portrait Maria Firmina dos Reis (March 11, 1822 – November 11, 1917) was a Brazilian author. She is considered Brazil's first black female novelist. In 1859, she published her first book Úrsula, which is considered the first Brazilian abolitionist novel.
